This 2015 Chevy SS Automatic had already laid the groundwork for future plans – coming in with a cold air intake and headers, putting down 380rwhp. This round of upgrades included our Phoenix Camshaft, along with a Circle D Torque Converter to make sure that the driveability stayed tame while obtaining as much sound and power as possible. To fortify the rest of the valvetrain, we installed our Brian Tooley Deluxe Cam Install Kit, along with a Melling 10296 oil pump. 63rwhp later we had a new car with added power and a killer idle!
“Oh…my…God!!! That’s is quite wonderful right there!!!!”
The quickest way to pick up horsepower in the new 5.3L direct-injected trucks is definitely with a blower! Using Magnacharger’s 2.3L supercharger kit, this truck went from quiet sleeper to…..fast quiet sleeper. A nice clean kit that bolts on in a couple of days, this was a simple way to add power. We also fabricated tubing to mate the Maggie to his current cold air intake, helping the blower to breathe in more effectively.
” In a word…Very professional looking too. Great job. I need to play with it some more / soak it in. Thanks for asking.”
Displacement on Demand/Active Fuel Management (DOD/AFM) and Variable Valve Timing (VVT)
DOD (also referred to as AFM) and VVT became options starting with Gen 4 LS motors (5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L). DOD/AFM disables four cylinders (1,4,6 and 7) at cruise. VVT is Variable Valve Timing. Some motors had both, some had one or the other, and some had none. This is important to know when planning your cam install, so you can have the correct parts. PCM of NC’s cams will all be three bolt, non DOD, non VVT cams unless other arrangements are made. This means any 07+ motor will need to use a 3 bolt cam gear kit with any of our cams. Check out our DOD/VVT Delete Kits here – link.
You can tell if your motor has VVT by looking at the cover. You can see the camshaft phaser actuator on the top, and also a five pin harness at the bottom. If the motor does NOT have VVT, there will be no phaser, and the harness will be three pin.
You can tell if your motor has DOD by peeking at the valley cover. If it is smooth, it does NOT have DOD. If has channels running through the top, then it does have DOD.
We previously had this car in for tuning, and the owner decided to come back for some pretty big changes! We swapped out the current cam with our own custom cam, which was a 221/235 on a 114+0 LSA. We also refreshed the top end with new valvesprings, and installed a new Melling 10296 oil pump while we had it all apart. On top of that, we added an A&A Supercharger kit with a Vortec unit, with a set of 1000cc Fuel Injector Connection injectors to supply enough fuel. The car hit the dyno, finishing up at 622 rwhp & 595 ft/lbs tq. We loved the results, the new added power, and better sound!
Hailing from KY, this truck made the voyage for a complete makeover. Starting as a basic SS model, we threw almost everything we had at it – intake, Whipple 2.9L Supercharger kit, custom cam, our GT Series Fan Kit, Kooks headers, a fuel system, and more. We ended up with a 218/231 cam with a 114+2, tweaked to work as best as possible with the Whipple. Along with the cam we did a full cam install kit and Melling 10296. FIC injectors made sure we got enough fuel, and a 450 Walbro kept up the pressure for us. After this build this truck sounds awesome and has the performance to back it up!
“THANK YOU KELLY! Absolutely Thrilled ‘Love All That PCM Did to my SS!…Gosh She Is Bad Azz Looking Under The Hood AND From The Under Side! Them Kooks Headers, Kooks Y-Pipe Set And Scotts Exhaust Are Sweet & Detailed Ran Out The Back!! WoW!!! That Whipple & All The Other Installed Parts, Give ‘The Impression’ of a New Factory High Performance Look!! To say the very least Kelly, Just Amazing!”
Back for more! You might recognize this car from this blog – link. After the cam, he was in need of more power. With the 1.7L factory blower being the limiting factor at this point, we knew it had to go. We replaced it with a 2.9L Whipple Supercharger, nearly doubling the volume. The customer opted for the red powdercoat which really catches the eye. With the addition of the Whipple unit and meth injection, we ended up at an astounding 832 rwhp & 788 ft/lbs of tq!
After reaching out for a consultation, this 2002 Silverado customer came in for the install of our Stage 1 Truck Cam. Wanting to retain stock manifolds and a stock converter, we knew this cam would be the best bet for him. With the duration of 211/226 on a 114 LSA, this cam fit his needs by adding more power without sacrificing any driveability what so ever. We also added our cam install kit (link) and a fresh Melling 10296 during the install as well. Since we were removing the old clutch fan, it was also an ideal time to install our Electric Fan Kit – which is another easy 15rwhp!
“Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know I’m extremely happy with the work you guys did on my Silverado. The cam swap & tuning was exactly what I was looking for!”
There’s no passing over this pink panther! This bright ZL1 came in for more power to match the eye catching exterior. We added more boost via a Lingenfelter Upper Pulley, and also installed a set of Kooks Headers. 92rwhp & 44 ft/lbs later, we ended up at a stout 554 hp & 537 ft/lbs on the dyno through the automatic transmission. With the new exhaust tone and added power, this car will really grab some attention now.
This bright yellow corvette came in for a complete transformation. We spec’d and installed a custom cam, specifically to work well with the twin turbo kit the customer had brought in. We also added a full cam install kit and a new Melling 10296 oil pump while we were there. We spruced up the fuel system and also added a Monster Triple S Organic clutch to make sure that we would be able to support the newfound power. The car did not disappoint on the dyno….laying down an impressive 627 rwhp & 606 ft/lbs tq! With a new gnarly idle it really turns heads now!
“Great experience from start to finish. I work in the automotive industry and was blown away by the excellent communication and customer service. My car spent several weeks with them getting a twin turbo kit, fuel system, clutch and PCM custom cam. I can’t say enough about the tune, the drivability is absolutely incredible. The wait was a few months to get it into their shop, but honestly after seeing the quality of work I’m surprised it wasn’t longer. A+ Company and employees.”
We get excited when we see one of the original LS’s come into the shop! This IOM has been on track car duty, and wanted to put down some more power to the tires. We chose our Hellcat cam – which would allow for some great power gains as well as still retain good street driveability. Our Hellcat cam is a 235/243 with lift in the low 600’s. We also installed a full cam install kit along with a Melling 10296 oil pump. The cam picked up 62 rwhp & 30 ft/lbs of tq without any head work. Great sound, great power and performance!
