Why buy HP Tuners for mail order tuning?

Typically the process for getting a mail order tune is to send us your stock computer and we edit it and send it back. That process puts your vehicle down for at least 3 business days at the very least with shipping back and forth. Shipping costs, especially expedited, can really get expensive fast.

There are other issues.. For instance.. GM 6 speed automatics have the computer inside the valve body. Removing that to send to us isn’t practical at all.

For that reason we HIGHLY recommend checking out our remote tuning option via HP Tuners. HP Tuners is a small USB interface that plugs in under the dash. It allows you to upload a tune file and record data. This is a fantastic tool to have in the tool back and honestly should be a requirement for anyone building any serious horsepower either now or in the future.

The way it works is simple (detailed instructions included with purchase).

1. Get an HP Tuners cable. You will need a laptop. Nothing special. We sell them but you don’t need to buy from us.
2. Purchase a remote tune from us and fill out an ordersheet.
3.  Plug the HPT cable in under the dash, connect to the laptop. Read your stock tune file out of your vehicle and email that to us.
4. We will build you a new file + a special file called a channel list you will use to record or log data. That channel list is a special list of parameters we need to fine tune and diagnose your car.
5. After loading the file, open the channel list with your scanner and record 15 minutes of driving data. Try to be diverse in how you operate the car. How you would drive normally + some wide open throttle data.
6. We will review this log and send a new file.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you and the tuner are happy. Note we do charge after 3 free revisions, but our rate is very affordable… Less than the price of a lunch at a fast food joint.

This is a fantastic tool. You do not need any special knowledge. There is no learning curve. If you are able to work email and open files you know everything you need to do this.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Pros

• We are able to diagnose issues with new builds. Around ⅓ of new builds have bugs. Misfires, bad sensors, trouble codes, etc. Diagnosing is far more than reading codes.
• We are able to pick through the data and quickly identify issues. With traditional mail in mail order tuning.. Outside of reading codes you will be very limited in diagnostics. Check out this related review.

• All HP Tuners tuning needs to be licensed. The license is held on the physical cable. So if we pay to license your vehicle, then you decide to take it to someone else.. That license will then need to be put on their cable. So it makes a lot of sense to own the cable in which the licenses are held.
• Updates for new mods are an email away!
• Help with diagnosing new issues are as simple as emailing us.
• Able to do transmissions where mail in tuning is impractical.

Cons

• Laptop needed.
• Slightly higher cost upfront.
• Basic skills to operate a PC computer. It’s 2025, shouldn’t everyone now know how to use a computer? Lol
