PCM of NC offers tuning for many vehicles, on site. Note: Appointments are required for every type of service, to ensure we have set aside time to help customers one on one.
What’s the difference? Mail Order vs. Street Tune vs. Dyno Tune
Mail Order Tune, On Site – we apply a mail order tune to your vehicle on site, instead of you mailing in your module. This requires an appointment and takes anywhere from 20-45 minutes depending on the vehicle and set up. For certain vehicles we may require you to remove the ECM so we can flash the module on the bench. You would fill out an order sheet online – link. We will then read out your ECM (and/or TCM), build a base tune per that order sheet, and reflash your module(s) while you wait. There are no subsequent changes made at the appointment, it is an upload of the mail order tune only.
Approximate Cost: $150 & up
Approximate Time of Appointment: 20-45 minutes
Approximate Lead Time: 0-2 weeks
Street Tune, On Site – we apply our tuning to your vehicle, and then drive it to dial it in. For some vehicles, we only offer street tuning, and not dyno (i.e. full size trucks, which are known to break driveshafts on the dyno, or other vehicles we do not deem safe). Street tuning is a good option also for some hot rods, stock/bolt on cars, and trucks. To get on our wait list, you can fill out an order sheet online – link. Due to our tuning backlog, vehicles are added to our wait list on an approval-basis only. We will reach out after receiving your request to confirm you have been added to our wait list. If we feel the vehicle or set up is not a good match for us we will also let you know. We do not allow ride-alongs.
Approximate Cost: $420 & up
Approximate Time of Appointment: 2-3 hours (stock/bolt on vehicle), 2-3 days (cammed/highly modified vehicle, LS Swap)
Approximate Lead Time: 2-3 months
Dyno Tune, On Site – we apply our tuning to your vehicle, and then drive it on the street and on the dyno to dial it in. The dyno is a very useful tool that allows consistent WOT pulls to be made in a controlled environment. If applicable, we will baseline dyno your vehicle (as is) to show a difference in before and after. Dyno tune cars are also driven on the street to flesh out any drivability issues, unless the vehicle is track-only/not road legal. We usually are able to video the dyno pulls. We do not rent out the dyno due to time constraints.
Approximate Cost: $600 & up
Approximate Time of Appointment: 4-5 hours (stock/bolt on vehicle), 2-3 days (cammed/highly modified vehicle, LS Swap)
Approximate Lead Time: 2-3 months
I have a Mail Order Tune from you already, can you fine tune it in person? Yes, we can, but we require approval and will have to add you to our waiting list. To request finishing the car on-site, please fill out this order sheet – link. We generally subtract what you have paid for the mail order tune from the cost of the street/dyno tune.
Why do you require approval for on-site street & dyno tuning? Due to our tuning backlog, vehicles are added to our wait list on an approval-basis only. Turning out great results is very important to us, and in order to do that we must first make sure that the parts chosen for the build are reputable, and also ensure that the vehicle is in top condition. We will not accept half-finished builds or those with parts combinations that don’t work well together. All vehicles must be roadworthy – have all body parts, all glass, good tires, insured, registered, etc. After reviewing, we will reach out to add you to our waiting list!
What should I know before bringing my vehicle for tuning?
We will have you sign off on a check list (link) before bringing your vehicle (street/dyno only). But basically, use common sense! We will be driving your vehicle. It will need a full tank of gas of your desired octane fuel (except E85 customers, contact us). It must be in roadworthy, drivable condition (all body panels installed, safe tires, insured, registered, all glass etc). If it’s a truck, no loose items in the bed. You must understand that due to time constraints we cannot perform mechanical repairs – so if something breaks while it is here you may need to come fix it/get it yourself. If it is an LS Swap, you will need to provide software/cable for aftermarket transmission controllers (i.e. Supermatic). LS Swaps also need to have their OBDII ports in a known/accessible location before dropping off.
