This rare colored bird returned to change up its naturally aspirated setup, which we had worked on a couple years prior. The owner brought in a used Procharger set up – looking to add a couple hundred horsepower in a hurry!
Before bringing it in, the customer changed the heads and cam over to a set up spec’d by Advanced Induction. Arriving on a rollback, we had our work cut out for us to get the car up and running. We spent extra time mounting the race intercooler, also cutting out the front bumper for more airflow. The provided procharger inlet was swapped out for a truck unit for better flow in a tight space.
Autometer Sport Comp II gauges were installed to monitor the new set up, for boost, wideband AFR and fuel pressure as well. In order to make use of the very little space in the f-body accessory drive and front end, we used a CBR bracket to relocate the power steering, and added an LS2 Corvette water pump to make sure the pulleys would have room to clear.
We also added our PCM of NC Catch Can kit to minimize oil consumption, a common problem with the LS motors. Utilizing our new plasma cutter, we were also able to fashion a front air dam in no time to help air flow!
Heading to the dyno, the trans am put down 626 rwhp at 10 lbs of boost. The customer decided to leave it as is for now – but likely will be back for more boost in the future!
