How to Swap a 4l60 to a 4l80

4l80e swap

Swap a 4l60 to a 4l80

A popular swap in the LS world is upgrading to a 4l80 transmission from a 4l60e or a 4l70e. Each platform will be a little different; but typically you would need to change the transmission, transmission mounts, driveshaft, and shifter assembly.

The tricky part of the 4l80e swap is the wiring and ECM control. This can be done with a segment swap, but not all tuners offer segment swaps, and furthermore not all operating systems will support a 4l80e segment swap.

What is a segment swap?

In a tune file, there are several different ‘segments’ that control the engine, transmission, fuel system, etc. In a segment swap, one takes the 4l80e segment out of a vehicle that originally came with a 4l80e, and imports it into the tune of the vehicle receiving the swap.

What does the PCM of NC 4l80e swap harness do?

Our 4l80e swap harness eliminates the need for a segment swap, streamlining the install process. There is an internal circuit board built in that handles the logic. Our harness is plug and play, it plugs inline the stock transmission harness and into the transmission.

What programming is required with a 4l80e swap harness?

Our swap harness does NOT require a segment swap. There are a few small changes to make with HP tuners, and then setting up the shift points (the gearing is different in the 4l80e). Then flash, and go!
