With headers and a cold air intake already installed, the owner of this 2014 was ready for a few more upgrades to step up the power, with an eventual goal of adding a Whipple supercharger.
It was also important to this customer that we kept the stock torque converter, so we designed the cam around that as well. Unlike most, he was looking for something stealthy, so we created a custom cam that would get the most power possible without changing the converter, while also retaining a near-stock idle. We named it the “Crazy Joe” cam, in his honor!
Since the L99’s weak point is the Active Fuel Managment lifters, we also deleted AFM during our install. We pulled the heads off to do this, so it was a great opportunity to send them off to Advanced Induction! Phil worked his magic with a 280cc porting and polish package to round out our heads and cam install.
We baselined the car at 363 rwhp & 379 ft/lbs tq when it came in. After the installs and tuning, it laid down 451 rwhp & 426 ft/lbs tq! Gaining 88 rwhp, we were very happy with the results. The driveability of this car is excellent as well, no bad street manners to contend with. We think the car really will turn some heads now that it has a nasty sound to go along with its looks!
A little while later we went back and added a set of Hotchkis lowering springs and strut tower brace, along with a sweet set of Autometer gauges. The boost gauge will be functional as soon as a blower is added this spring!
